Combating Climate Change: A Program with Key State Representatives

On Wednesday, January 15, York Ready for 100% will present “Combating Climate Change: Maine Strategies and Initiatives” from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the York Community Auditorium. Speakers will be State Senator Mark Lawrence, State Representative Lydia Blume and Dan Burgess, Director of the Governor’s Energy Office. They will discuss and answer questions about Maine’s plans to confront, reduce and manage the effects of climate change on the well-being of the people and environment of Maine.

Mark Lawrence has served five terms overall in the Maine State Senate, representing the towns of Eliot, Kittery, Ogunquit, Berwick and part of S. Berwick. He has also been York County District Attorney and a lawyer in private practice. He is a longtime environmentalist.

Representative Lydia Blume is serving her third term in the State Legislature, where she founded and is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resources. She represents the part of York east of Route 95.

Dan Burgess was appointed by Governor Janet Mills to direct the Governor’s Energy Office, which is responsible for planning and coordinating the state’s energy policy. Director Burgess is “using innovative approaches to address climate change.”

There will be refreshments after the question and answer period and opportunities before and after the event to browse the tables staffed by our program endorsers: York Land Trust, Maine Conservation Alliance, Kittery Land Trust, York River Study Committee, 350 Maine, Union of Concerned Scientists, Maine Youth for Climate Justice, Great Works Regional Land Trust, Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission, Maine Conservation Alliance, Handprinter, Sierra Club (Maine Chapter), Conservation Law Foundation, Natural Resources Council of Maine, Mr. Fox Composting, and York’s First Parish Church Creation Care Committee.

This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand about the State’s ideas and plans to address our climate crisis. The event is free and open to the public. York Community Auditorium is at 1 Robert Stevens Drive. York Ready for 100% is a citizens’ group that advocates for clean, renewable energy.
